Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) – a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power has on 15 th October 2024 acquired three (03) Project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to execute Inter-State Transmission Projects related to transmission of renewable energy. These SPVs are ‘South Olpad Transmission Limited ‘, ‘‘Jam Khambhaliya Transmission Limited‘, which have been acquired from the Bid Process Coordinator PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) and the SPV ‘Rajasthan IV H1 Power Transmission Limited‘ has been acquired from the Bid Process Coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL). These projects have been won by POWERGRID after competing with various private sector players and emerging as successful bidder in Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. The total cost of these three projects as per NCT estimations is ₹8769 Crores. South Olpad Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of new 765/400/220 kV South Olpad (GIS) S/s along with 765kV & 400kV D/C Transmission Lines and associated bays extension works in the state of Gujarat. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months. This transmission project is a part of the Khavda Phase-IV transmission scheme, which has been planned to enable evacuation of additional 7 GW (beyond 15GW) RE power from Khavda RE park. Rajasthan IV H1 Power Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of new 765/400/220 kV sub-station at Kurawar, 765kV & 400kV D/C Transmission Lines and associated bays extension works at other existing sub-station in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months. This transmission project is a part of the comprehensive scheme to evacuate 5.5 GW and 2 GW of renewable energy from the Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex and Neemuch/Mandsaur WEZ respectively. Jam Khambhaliya Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising augmentation of transformation capacity and associated bays extension works at existing substation in the state of Gujarat. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and all elements of the project are to be commissioned in 21 months except one element which is to be commissioned by June 2027. This transmission project shall enable evacuation of power beyond 1.5 GW at Jam Khambhaliya (up to 3 GW) using Renewable energy sources. POWERGRID, through its various Projects SPVs which have been acquired through tariff bidding route, is implementing various Transmission System Projects being constructed on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. These Projects will augment the Indian transmission infrastructure to evacuate Green Energy to the National Grid thereby reducing dependency on fossil fuels and play a significant role in fulfilling India's vision of generating 500 GW of non-fossil generation capacity by 2030. As on 30 th September 2024, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 279 Sub-stations and more than 1,78,195 ckm transmission lines and 537,276 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain average transmission system availability of about 99.8%.
