Ashok Barnwal Relieved of Two Additional Charges in Reshuffle
Ashok Barnwal has been relieved of his additional charges as Agriculture Production Commissioner and Environment Department head.
Ashok Barnwal, a 1991-batch IAS officer who serves as Additional Chief Secretary of the Public Health and Medical Education Department, will be relieved of two additional charges he has held alongside his substantive responsibilities, according to the order dated June 17, 2026. Barnwal had been holding charge as Agriculture Production Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh and as Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment Department, Environment Commissioner and Director General of EPCO, on top of his core role and other assignments including the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department and Commissioner of Food Security. Under the new order, the agriculture production charge passes to K.C. Gupta, while the environment-related charges move to Anirudh Mukerji. Barnwal continues to hold his substantive post and his remaining additional responsibilities unchanged. The order was issued by the General Administration Department and signed by Chief Secretary Anurag Jain on behalf of the Governor.
