Chhattisgarh Government Reshuffles Seven IFoS Officers Across Forest Department

The Chhattisgarh government has reassigned seven Indian Forest Service officers in a fresh round of postings, with Sanjeeta Gupta of the 1997 batch named Incharge Managing Director of the State Minor Forest Produce Federation in Nava Raipur and Amarnath Prasad of the 1998 batch posted as Secretary of the Forest and Climate Change Department with additional charge of Managing Director, State Forest Development Corporation.

Chhattisgarh's forest bureaucracy runs parallel tracks through the Forest and Climate Change Department, the State Minor Forest Produce Federation, and the State Forest Development Corporation, bodies that between them handle everything from tendu leaf procurement and non-timber forest produce marketing to timber operations and wildlife protection across the state's extensive forest cover. Reshuffles of this scale typically realign charge across all three arms at once, since officers frequently hold additional charge across departments and corporations that share overlapping field infrastructure and staff.

The reshuffled officers span batches from 1997 to 2015, a spread that reflects Chhattisgarh's practice of mixing senior IFoS officers in departmental secretary-level roles with mid-career officers running field formations and tiger reserves. S Venkatachalam of the 2005 batch takes over as Executive Director of the State Minor Forest Produce Federation, while Abhishek Kumar Singh of the 2009 batch moves to the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force as Conservator of Forest, a posting that places him closer to the state's top forest administrative hierarchy. The reshuffle order was issued by the state's Forest and Climate Change Department, which retains overall administrative control over postings across its affiliated corporations and federations.

Three of the reshuffled officers take up wildlife-focused field charges. Gurunathan N of the 2012 batch becomes Incharge Chief Conservator of Forest for Wildlife and Project Director of the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve in Gariyaband, while Pranay Mishra of the 2013 batch moves to the equivalent charge at Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve with additional responsibility for the Project Elephant division in Sarguja, a district that has recorded frequent elephant movement and conflict incidents in recent years.

Ramesh Kumar Jangde, also of the 2015 batch, has been posted as Incharge Regional General Manager of the State Forest Development Corporation, rounding out a reshuffle that touches procurement, wildlife management, and corporate forestry operations within the same order, and that spans nearly two decades of seniority across the officers involved.

Chhattisgarh's tiger reserves and elephant corridors have faced recurring human-wildlife conflict in recent years, particularly in the Sarguja and Gariyaband belts covered by this reshuffle, making the field-level postings at Udanti-Sitanadi and Guru Ghasidas politically sensitive assignments beyond their routine administrative weight, since conflict incidents in these districts routinely draw state assembly attention.

Chhattisgarh's forest department has periodically used comprehensive reshuffles of this kind to align officer postings with the state's shifting priorities between revenue-generating minor forest produce operations and conservation-focused wildlife management, particularly as human-wildlife conflict incidents have drawn greater political attention in recent assembly sessions. The Indian Forest Service's state cadre structure means officers can be moved between departmental, corporation, and field postings within a single order, a flexibility the state government has used to respond quickly when a particular tiger reserve or forest circle needs a change in leadership.
