GAIL Veteran Praveer Kumar Srivastava Steps In as Mahanagar Gas MD, Targeting Clean Energy Expansion
GAIL veteran Praveer Kumar Srivastava assumes charge as Mahanagar Gas Limited's MD with a five-year mandate, bringing 30+ years of gas sector expertise to lead MGL's clean energy expansion in the Mumbai region.
Mahanagar Gas Limited, one of India's leading city gas distribution companies, has a new Managing Director at its helm. Praveer Kumar Srivastava — a career GAIL professional with over three decades of expertise across operations, pipeline engineering, clean energy, and hydrogen infrastructure — assumed charge on April 30, 2026, beginning a five-year term that the company's board had approved through regulatory disclosures. Srivastava's appointment brings deep sectoral knowledge to a company navigating a pivotal expansion phase. During his career at GAIL, he held mission-critical roles across the gas major's operational and strategic arms, gaining exposure to the full value chain of gas distribution — from long-haul transmission pipelines to city gas networks and emerging hydrogen corridors. His entry into MGL comes at a time when city gas distribution companies are being pushed to expand CNG station networks, deepen domestic piped gas penetration, and lay the groundwork for hydrogen blending trials. For MGL, which primarily serves the Mumbai metropolitan region, the leadership transition signals continuity of growth ambitions alongside an intensified focus on clean energy outcomes. With India's national gas grid expanding and the government encouraging state-of-the-art CNG and green gas infrastructure, the timing of Srivastava's takeover aligns him with potentially the most consequential growth phase in MGL's corporate history.
