Anish Gupta Elevated to Joint Director at CBI Following Ramnish Geer's Superannuation

Anish Gupta, an IPS officer of the 2008-batch Jharkhand cadre currently serving as Deputy Inspector General at the Central Bureau of Investigation, has been appointed Joint Director in the agency. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the promotion on August 10, with the posting taking effect from the date Gupta assumes charge on or after October 1, 2026, following the superannuation of the incumbent, Ramnish Geer. His tenure runs up to February 29, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Gupta's elevation follows the superannuation of Ramnish Geer, whose retirement from the Joint Director post created the vacancy the ACC has now filled. Superannuation-driven vacancies at this level are typically filled well in advance to allow for a smooth handover of ongoing case files, and the October effective date gives the CBI leadership a defined runway to manage the transition without disrupting active investigations under Geer's charge.
