Assam Government Reshuffles Four IAS Officers, Assigns Them to Key Municipal and Secretariat Roles
Assam reshuffles four IAS officers; Ankur Das to Silchar MC, Shivani Jerngal to Dibrugarh MC, others to Finance and CM Secretariat.
The Assam government has transferred and posted four IAS officers, assigning them to fresh responsibilities across municipal administration and the state secretariat. Ankur Das has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of the Silchar Municipal Corporation. Anand Malhotra has been shifted to the Finance Department, where he will serve as Deputy Secretary. Arjit Mahajan has been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Chief Minister's Secretariat at Dispur, placing him at the centre of the state's executive administration. Shivani Jerngal has been transferred and posted as Commissioner of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation. The changes span two of Assam's important urban bodies — Silchar Municipal Corporation, which serves the Barak Valley region, and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, a major city in Upper Assam. Both positions require managing civic infrastructure, public health services, urban planning, and local governance. The Finance Department posting for Malhotra places him in one of the most consequential departments of any state government, responsible for budget preparation, expenditure management, and financial oversight of other departments. The Chief Minister's Secretariat posting for Mahajan involves supporting the CM's office in policy coordination and administrative follow-up. These transfers are part of Assam's periodic reshuffling of IAS officers to align skills with departmental requirements and to rotate officers through diverse administrative experiences, which is a standard feature of civil service management in Indian states.
