Enforcement Directorate's Legal Cadre Sees Major Expansion with Sevenfold ADPs Increase
The Enforcement Directorate significantly expands its Legal Cadre, with Additional Directors (Prosecution) growing sevenfold and several other posts more than doubled.
The Enforcement Directorate has carried out a significant restructuring of its legal and adjudication cadre, with the number of Additional Directors (Prosecution) being multiplied from one to seven — a sevenfold increase. In the same exercise, the posts of Deputy Legal Adviser have been raised from 7 to 18, while Assistant Legal Adviser positions have been doubled from 18 to 36, reflecting a concerted push to bolster the agency's prosecutorial and legal capabilities. Within the Adjudication Wing, while the solitary post of Special Director (Adjudication) remains unchanged, the strength at intermediate levels has been considerably enhanced. The revised structure now provides for two Additional Directors, three Joint Directors, five Deputy Directors, and 10 Assistant Directors within the wing — a substantial increase over previous sanctioned strengths. The expansion is widely seen as a response to the growing volume and complexity of money laundering and foreign exchange enforcement cases that the ED handles, necessitating a deeper bench of legally trained officers at every tier.
