Government Appoints Hitesh R. Joshi as CMD of General Insurance Corporation of India
Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi formally appointed CMD of General Insurance Corporation of India after serving as interim head since October 2025.
The Union government on Wednesday formally appointed Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), the country's sole national reinsurer. Joshi had been holding the charge of interim CMD at GIC Re since October 2025, following the conclusion of the previous CMD's tenure. Wednesday's appointment regularises his position at the organisation. GIC Re plays a central role in India's insurance sector by providing reinsurance support to the domestic non-life insurance market while maintaining a growing international portfolio. The CMD's responsibilities span underwriting policy, international operations, investment management, and regulatory compliance. With the formal appointment now confirmed, Joshi is expected to provide continuity to GIC Re's leadership as the company pursues expansion in overseas markets and refines its domestic reinsurance programme.
