Karnataka Transfers Three IAS Officers; Ragapriya Posted as Labour Commissioner
Karnataka has transferred three IAS officers, with Ragapriya R. taking over as the state's Labour Commissioner in a reshuffle.
The Karnataka government on Thursday transferred three IAS officers, with Ragapriya R., who had been waiting for a posting, appointed Commissioner for Labour.
The Labour Commissioner's office in Karnataka oversees enforcement of labour laws, industrial dispute resolution and welfare scheme administration for the state's workforce, making it one of the more operationally demanding postings among the state's commissionerates.
Ragapriya, a 2011-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, takes over the post from Gopal Krishna, a 2012-batch officer of the same cadre, who has been transferred and posted as Commissioner for Collegiate Education in Bengaluru, moving from labour administration to overseeing the state's degree colleges.
The third officer in the reshuffle, Harish Kumar K., also a 2012-batch IAS officer who had been awaiting posting, has been appointed Director of the Department of Technical Education in Bengaluru.
The three postings together fill one vacancy that had been open, the Labour Commissioner's post, while clearing two officers who had been without a substantive posting, a routine housekeeping exercise state governments carry out periodically.
All three postings are within departments handling public services with direct citizen interface, from labour disputes to college administration and technical education oversight.
The transfer orders were issued by the Karnataka government on Thursday and take effect immediately.
