NLC India Limited Celebrates 70 Years of Legacy on its Raising Day, Outlines Ambitious Growth Targets

NLC India Limited celebrated its 70th Raising Day as “Gratitude Day” today, on May 20, 2026, marking the Platinum Jubilee of the Company and seven decades of dedicated service to the Nation in the Mining and Energy sector.
The celebration commenced in the morning with the garlanding of the statue of Shri Jambulinga Mudaliar, the philanthropist who donated his lands to NLCIL.
Later, the NLCIL flag was hoisted at all the Units by the respective Unit Heads. At the Corporate Office, NLCIL CMD Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli hoisted the NLCIL flag in the presence of former CMDs, Functional Directors (FDs), CVO, former FDs, Senior officials, Representatives of Trade Unions, Associations, Federations and employees.
To commemorate NLCIL’s glorious 70-year journey, the Department of Posts released a Special Cover under the theme “70 Years of Energizing the Nation with Sustainability.” The Special Cover highlights NLC India Limited’s enduring spirit and its contribution to nation-building and sustainable energy development over the past seven decades. The Special Cover was officially released by Shri Sayeed Rashid, IPoS, Postmaster General, Southern Region (holding additional charge of Central Region) and received by Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli.
Addressing the gathering, CMD, NLCIL highlighted the company’s remarkable 70-year journey of progress, attributing its sustained success to the dedication of past employees and visionary leadership. He further urged the employees to strive for excellence and commit their best efforts toward achieving the company’s ambitious growth targets.
In the evening, a formal function with usual traditional fervour was organized at Lignite Hall.
Shri Samir Swarup, Director (HR), NLCIL, welcomed the gathering. Former CMDs who were honoured for taking the company forward during their respective tenures, offered their felicitations.
Delivering the Presidential address, NLC CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli wished all on this occasion of Platinum Jubilee celebrations. He informed that Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Coal & Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal & Mines and the Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India, had conveyed their wishes to the NLCIL Team on the occasion. He paid rich tributes to Jambulinga Mudaliar, describing him as the man who donated all his lands to NLCIL.
He expressed gratitude to the Government of India and the State Government of Tamil Nadu who facilitated the establishment and growth of this company from Mining operations to becoming a National Integrated Energy Company. Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli expressed his gratitude to all employees and stakeholders of yesteryears and their families, NLCIL Team members, the Unions, Associations, Federations, the local villagers/farmers who gave their lands to NLCIL, Contract workers, contractors, Vendors and Financial Institutions for their support.
Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli referred to the outstanding financial results of Financial year 2025-26 with pride, declaring that there was all round improvement in all areas, both in the conventional and renewable sectors. NLCIL has moved from around Rs.9000 crore to more than Rs.50,000 Crore market capitalisation, from a small-cap company to Mid-cap company riding high on investor confidence resulting from ambitious targets. Proudly stating that the Minister of Coal and the Secretary/Coal had commended NLCIL as the most professionally managed company in the country, he called upon the Team NLCIL to take this forward with commitment and transparency,
Shri Prasanna Kumar reiterated the targets set for NLCIL - Doubling the Mining Production, Tripling the Thermal Power Generation, increasing Solar Power generation seven-fold and a CAPEX of Rs.1.25 Lakh Crore, all of which required concerted effort. He highlighted NLCIL’s success in meeting Government targets in various sectors, recalling how NLCIL won the 1st Prizes in Swachh Bharat initiatives and Hindi Pakhwada. Emphasising the importance of improvement in standards of living, he assured that steps were being taken to undertake road safety measures in Neyveli Township.
A book titled “Milestones & Momentum of NLCIL 2025-26” chronicling the landmark achievements, records and awards of NLCIL in the last Financial Year, was released.
As a mark of recognition of their contributions in the evolution of the company, 10 elderly retired employees of NLCIL and their spouses were honoured by CMD, Functional Directors and CVO with a shawl and a gift hamper.
Awards were distributed under “Reward and Recognition” scheme in various categories like Productivity excellence, Efficiency, Overall performance and Safety for Industrial and Service Units. Also, the Elite and Excel group and individual awards were presented to the recipients.
NLCIL’s Functional Directors, CVO, DIG/CISF, Senior Officials, Executives, Employees, representatives of recognised Trade Unions, Welfare Associations, NLC SC/ST Welfare Federations, WIPS, School teachers, students and the general public attended the event.
A grand cultural programme by NLC School children was presented.
The 70th Raising Day of NLCIL celebrated the remarkable journey of perseverance and enduring efforts under the able guidance of Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Minister for Coal & Mines, to create an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” as envisioned by the Prime Minister and to contribute to the outstanding growth story of the country.
