Rajesh Kumar Chandel, CEO of SJVN, Selected as Director (Projects)
Rajesh Kumar Chandel, currently Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Limited, has been selected for the position of Director (Projects) at the same organisation, following a Public Enterprises Selection Board meeting held on January 19, 2026.
SJVN, formerly Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, is a central public sector enterprise engaged in hydroelectric and renewable power generation, with the Director (Projects) role carrying board-level responsibility for project execution across the company's power generation portfolio, spanning hydro, solar, and wind energy projects.
Chandel's move from CEO to the board-level Director (Projects) position represents a shift from the organisation's top executive leadership role to a specific board-level functional charge focused on project execution and delivery, a transition that draws on his prior CEO-level familiarity with SJVN's overall project portfolio and execution challenges.
SJVN has continued to expand its renewable energy generation capacity in recent years, diversifying beyond its traditional hydroelectric power base into solar and wind projects, a diversification that has added complexity to the Director (Projects) role given the different execution and regulatory considerations each generation technology carries.
Board-level Director appointments at public sector power generation enterprises such as SJVN typically go through PESB's standard selection process, drawing candidates from the organisation's own senior executives as well as officers from other public sector power and infrastructure enterprises.
The Director (Projects) role's focus on project execution places Chandel directly in charge of delivery timelines and cost management for SJVN's under-construction and planned power generation projects, a function central to the company's capacity expansion targets.
Following PESB's recommendation, the appointment proceeds through the standard clearance process involving the Ministry of Power and the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet before formal notification.
