Shivraj Singh Chouhan Calls for Time-Bound Action on State Commitments at Southern Regional Agriculture Conference

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while addressing the concluding session of the Regional Agriculture Conference for Southern States in Hyderabad, directed states to complete their agricultural targets and commitments within the stipulated timelines. He said states must act seriously on the actionable points identified during the day-long deliberations. The conference, he emphasised, must translate into concrete action and measurable outcomes. “The Centre and the states are one agriculture team. Our scientists, our farmers, officers of the Central and state governments, all together form one agriculture team. We must work together,” Shri Chouhan said. He stressed that commitments made by states at the conference must be fulfilled. Otherwise, the entire exercise would lose its purpose. If a state has committed to completing Farmer ID generation by December, it must meet that deadline, he said. There is no need to repeat discussions on every issue, but action on the decisions taken is essential.

Shri Chouhan said the conference would serve no purpose if the decisions taken were not implemented. “If we come for a day, eat, meet and sit, and do nothing beyond that, it would amount to cheating the people. That is not what we want. We have to deliver results,” he said. Expressing confidence in the agriculture teams working at the Centre and in the states, he said all levels must work together to bring about meaningful change in the sector. “Creating a commotion is not my objective. My desire is to change the situation. We will change the face of agriculture,” Shri Chouhan said. He also recalled the commitment made during the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan that whenever states finalise dates for their agricultural outreach programmes, scientists from the Government of India and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) would accompany them. Scientists will visit villages and fields, sit with farmers and hold discussions involving farmers, scientists and agriculture department officials. The objective is to strengthen direct engagement between agricultural research and farming communities.
