Sushil Kumar Singh Gets Additional Charge of New Mangalore Port Authority for Six Months

Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairperson of Deendayal Port Authority, has been given the additional charge of Chairperson (Joint Secretary level) of New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The arrangement is effective from June 1, 2026 and will remain in place for six months, up to November 30, 2026. Singh is a 1993-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME). His handling of two major port authorities simultaneously reflects a common practice in the port sector, where officers with relevant experience are given concurrent charge to ensure administrative continuity at leadership-level vacancies. Deendayal Port Authority, located in Kandla, Gujarat, is one of India's largest ports by cargo volume. New Mangalore Port Authority, situated on the Karnataka coast, handles a significant share of India's petroleum product imports and iron ore exports. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has been actively pursuing expansion and modernisation of India's major ports. The additional charge arrangement ensures that NMPA does not face a leadership gap while the government processes the selection of a full-time Chairperson. Singh's engineering background from the railway services is seen as relevant to port infrastructure management, particularly given the large-scale civil and mechanical operations involved in both ports.
