Government Forms Search Panel to Select CMD for BSNL; Applications Open Till July 22

The government has constituted a search-cum-selection committee to fill the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on an immediate absorption basis. The committee will be chaired by the Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). BSNL, India's state-owned telecom operator, has been undergoing a financial and operational restructuring over the past several years. The appointment of a new CMD is expected to provide stable leadership to the company as it continues its revival efforts under government support. Eligible candidates interested in applying for the CMD post have been asked to submit their applications to the Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT), by July 22, 2026. The immediate absorption basis indicates that the selected candidate will be taken directly into the BSNL establishment rather than being posted on deputation from another organisation. The CMD of BSNL is responsible for overall corporate strategy, financial management, and day-to-day operations of the telecom company. The position is one of the most significant leadership roles in the Central public sector enterprise space, given BSNL's extensive network and its importance to government telecom policy. The DoT, which is the administrative ministry for BSNL, will oversee the final selection process. The constitution of the search panel signals that the government intends to fill the post expeditiously.
