Ajit Kumar Panda Appointed CMD, CONCOR

Ajit Kumar Panda, presently Director (Projects & Services) at Container Corporation of India Limited, has been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of CONCOR with effect from August 1, 2026, until his superannuation on August 31, 2028.

CONCOR is India's largest rail-linked container logistics company, operating a network of inland container depots and container freight stations that move cargo between ports and inland industrial hubs under the Ministry of Railways' administrative umbrella. The CMD's post carries responsibility for the company's freight pricing strategy and its expansion into new terminal locations.

Panda's elevation comes from within CONCOR's own board, having served as Director (Projects & Services) before this appointment — a position responsible for overseeing the development of new terminal infrastructure and service expansion across the company's network.

As Director (Projects & Services), Panda was responsible for infrastructure development work that underpins CONCOR's ability to add new container handling capacity, a function directly relevant to the expansion plans he will now oversee as CMD.

His appointment continues a pattern at CONCOR of elevating sitting whole-time directors to the top post rather than bringing in external candidates, providing continuity in strategy as the company competes with private logistics players for a larger share of India's container freight market.

As CMD, Panda will be expected to manage CONCOR's continued diversification into multimodal logistics and warehousing even as the company faces competition from private container train operators that have entered the market since the sector was opened up.

The appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026, and runs until Panda's superannuation on August 31, 2028, as per the order.
