PESB to Interview Candidates for CMD, Northern Coalfields, on July 8
PESB will interview 12 shortlisted executives via video conferencing on July 8 for the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited.
The Public Enterprises Selection Board will hold interviews on July 8 for the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited, a Coal India subsidiary, according to the board's schedule.
The CMD's post at NCL is a board-level position overseeing one of Coal India's larger opencast mining subsidiaries, based in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli coalfields, which supplies thermal coal to power plants across northern and central India.
A panel of 12 senior executives drawn from various central public sector enterprises has been shortlisted for the post, reflecting the PESB's standard practice of drawing CMD-level candidates from across the CPSE pool rather than restricting the field to internal promotions.
The interview will be conducted through video conferencing, a format the PESB has increasingly relied on for board-level selections in recent years to accommodate candidates based outside Delhi.
The selection comes amid a broader cycle of leadership appointments across Coal India's subsidiaries, which together account for the bulk of the country's domestic coal production and remain central to India's thermal power generation capacity.
Whoever is selected will take charge of a subsidiary facing the dual pressure of meeting rising coal demand from the power sector while advancing land acquisition and environmental clearance processes for new mining projects.
The PESB's recommendation, once finalised, will be sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for final approval before the appointment is notified.
