In a key policy-level appointment, noted economist Ashok Kumar Lahiri has been named Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, India’s premier public policy think tank. A former Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India and member of the 15th Finance Commission, Lahiri brings extensive experience in fiscal policy, macroeconomic strategy, and governance reforms. Currently serving as a BJP MLA in West Bengal, his appointment is expected to further align economic policymaking with ground-level governance insights. His elevation comes at a time when India is focusing on long-term growth strategies, structural reforms, and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
