Atul Gupta Set to Succeed Vartika Shukla as Chairman and Managing Director of Engineers India Limited
Atul Gupta likely to take over as CMD of Engineers India Ltd.
A leadership transition is underway at Engineers India Limited as Vartika Shukla completes her term as Chairman and Managing Director, with Atul Gupta, currently Director (Commercial), expected to assume the top position once formal appointment orders are issued.
Engineers India Limited is a central public sector enterprise providing engineering consultancy and project management services primarily to the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors, making the CMD position significant for the company's role supporting major energy infrastructure projects across India's public and private sector clients.
Gupta's move from Director (Commercial) to the top leadership position follows the standard internal-elevation pattern common at central public sector enterprises, where the Public Enterprises Selection Board frequently draws CMD-level appointees from among an organisation's existing senior executives given their established familiarity with ongoing projects and client relationships.
His prior role as Director (Commercial) would have carried responsibility for EIL's business development, contract negotiation, and client relationship management functions, experience directly relevant to the CMD role given the commercially competitive nature of engineering consultancy services EIL provides to energy sector clients.
Shukla's outgoing tenure as CMD has coincided with EIL's continued engagement in major refinery expansion, petrochemical complex, and clean energy transition projects, work that Gupta will inherit oversight of as he steps into the leadership role.
EIL has continued to diversify its consultancy portfolio beyond traditional oil and gas engineering into areas including renewable energy and green hydrogen project consultancy, aligning with broader shifts in India's energy sector investment priorities.
The formal appointment is expected to proceed through the standard Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Appointments Committee of the Cabinet clearance process following Shukla's term completion.
