Centre Overhauls Cadre Allocation Policy for All India Services
The Centre has introduced a new cadre allocation policy for IAS, IPS, and IFoS officers effective from the 2026 batch, replacing zonal divisions with alphabetical groups.
The Central Government has announced a significant revision to the cadre allocation policy for All India Services (IAS, IPS, IFoS), which will take effect starting with the 2026 batch. This new policy aims to improve national integration, fairness, and transparency by replacing the existing zonal divisions with four alphabetical groups. Future allocations will be determined based on a rotational cycle, vacancies, merit, and explicit willingness. This policy shift is expected to influence administrative postings in major government research bodies such as ISRO, ICAR, and ICMR, which are overseen by these services.
