Chandrasekharan Raghuram Selected as Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited
Chandrasekharan Raghuram has been selected as the CMD of Hindustan Shipyard Limited by the PESB.
Chandrasekharan Raghuram, currently Assistant Chief of Material in the Navy, has been selected as Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited, following a Public Enterprises Selection Board meeting on January 28, 2026, where he was chosen from among 11 candidates interviewed for the position.
Hindustan Shipyard Limited is a central public sector enterprise engaged in shipbuilding and ship repair, including naval vessel construction and maintenance, making the CMD position significant given the shipyard's role supporting India's naval fleet expansion and maintenance requirements.
Raghuram's background as Assistant Chief of Material in the Navy, a role focused on naval procurement and material management, brings direct institutional familiarity with naval shipbuilding requirements and defence procurement processes to his new civilian leadership role at the shipyard.
Selecting a serving naval officer for a CMD position at a defence shipbuilding public sector enterprise is a pattern PESB has periodically followed, given the direct relevance naval procurement and technical experience carries for an organisation whose primary customer base includes the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
The 11-candidate interview pool for this vacancy reflects the competitive nature of CMD-level appointments within India's defence shipbuilding sector, with PESB drawing candidates from both naval officers and civilian executives across defence and shipbuilding public sector enterprises.
Hindustan Shipyard has continued to play a role in India's naval self-reliance push, including submarine construction and maintenance work, an area of sustained government emphasis given the strategic importance of indigenous naval shipbuilding capacity.
Following PESB's recommendation, the appointment proceeds through the standard clearance process involving the Ministry of Defence and the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet before formal notification.
