Inter-Cadre Transfers and Promotions Continue Under DoPT's Regular Cycle
DoPT continues to process inter-cadre transfers and promotions across IAS and other Central services in the regular annual cycle.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) continues to process inter-cadre transfers and service promotions as part of its ongoing administrative routine. Officers across the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and other Central services are being moved between assignments in line with service rules and vacancy requirements. Inter-cadre transfers — where an officer is shifted from the cadre of one state to another — are governed by the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954 and require clearance from both the cadre states involved as well as the Union government. Such transfers are typically approved on grounds of marriage, medical necessity, or administrative exigency. The DoPT handles personnel matters for All India Service officers, including annual confidential reports, deputation approvals, and cadre postings. The current round of movements reflects the department's regular functioning as the service year moves into its second half. Promotions within the IAS and allied services are determined through Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) convened by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Officers are assessed on their annual performance reports, vigilance clearance, and overall service record before being elevated to the next grade. Sources familiar with the process confirm that movements are proceeding in the normal course, with no unusual batch-level changes announced at this stage. Officers on central deputation and those due for repatriation to their cadre states are also part of the current cycle being processed by DoPT.
