Vikas Purwar Elevated to PCME at Integral Coach Factory
IRSME officer Vikas Purwar has been elevated from PCME/Projects to Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer at ICF.
Vikas Purwar, presently serving as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer/Projects at the Integral Coach Factory, has been posted as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer at ICF itself, an internal elevation within the same production unit.
The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is one of Indian Railways' largest coach manufacturing units, producing passenger coaches including Vande Bharat and LHB-design rakes that run across the national network, making the Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer's office central to the Railways' rolling stock production capacity.
Purwar's move from the Projects vertical, which typically handles capital works and new manufacturing line development, to the main PCME charge places him in overall command of ICF's production operations rather than a specific project stream.
An officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers, Purwar's elevation within the same factory suggests continuity in institutional knowledge at ICF, with his prior exposure to the unit's projects side expected to inform his approach to production planning.
The move is part of the Railway Board's practice of promoting officers who have handled the projects or planning side of a production unit into overall charge once a vacancy arises at the top, rather than bringing in an officer unfamiliar with the unit.
As PCME, Purwar will be responsible for ICF's coach production targets, quality control and modernisation of manufacturing processes at a time when the factory is scaling up output of newer coach designs for the network.
The posting takes effect as per the Railway Board's order.
