Government Notifies 147 IPS Vacancies Through Civil Services Examination 2024

The Government of India has officially notified the category-wise, cadre-wise and insider/outsider distribution of 147 Indian Police Service (IPS) vacancies to be filled through the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024, providing a clear roadmap for fresh IPS officer allocations across the country. Of the total 147 vacancies, 49 are earmarked as Insider posts and 98 as Outsider posts. In terms of reservation, 74 vacancies fall in the Unreserved (UR) category, 41 are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 22 for Scheduled Castes (SC), and 10 for Scheduled Tribes (ST). State-wise, the AGMUT cadre has been allotted 4 vacancies comprising 3 UR and 1 OBC. Andhra Pradesh accounts for 14 vacancies (6 UR, 5 OBC, 2 SC, 1 ST), while Assam-Meghalaya has 11 vacancies (7 UR, 2 OBC, 1 SC, 1 ST). Bihar carries 8 vacancies (5 UR, 1 each for OBC, SC and ST) and Gujarat has 2 vacancies (1 OBC, 1 SC). Jharkhand has been notified 6 vacancies (5 UR, 1 SC), Karnataka 7 vacancies (3 UR, 2 OBC, 1 SC, 1 ST), and Kerala 6 vacancies (2 UR, 3 OBC, 1 SC). Madhya Pradesh carries 11 vacancies (4 UR, 3 OBC, 3 SC, 1 ST) and Maharashtra 10 vacancies (4 UR, 3 OBC, 2 SC, 1 ST). Manipur has 4 vacancies (2 UR, 1 SC, 1 ST) and Odisha 6 vacancies (2 UR, 3 OBC, 1 ST). Punjab has 4 vacancies (2 UR, 1 OBC, 1 SC) and Sikkim 2 vacancies (1 UR, 1 OBC). Tamil Nadu carries 9 vacancies (5 UR, 2 OBC, 1 SC, 1 ST), Tripura 2 UR vacancies, and Telangana 2 vacancies (1 UR, 1 OBC). Uttar Pradesh has 12 vacancies (7 UR, 3 OBC, 2 SC), Uttarakhand 2 UR vacancies, and West Bengal the largest single-state share with 15 vacancies (8 UR, 5 OBC, 1 SC, 1 ST). Notably, no vacancies have been notified for Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh in this cycle.
