Jasmeet Singh Bindra Appointed Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority

Jasmeet Singh Bindra has been appointed Chairperson, at the Joint Secretary level, of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, a major maritime hub on India's eastern coast functioning under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The appointment carries a five-year tenure.

Bindra is a 1997-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, bringing transport administration experience from the railway sector into port leadership, a cross-sectoral appointment pattern the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has used periodically to draw on broader transport and logistics management expertise rather than restricting major port chairperson appointments exclusively to officers with a maritime-sector background.

Visakhapatnam Port Authority is among India's major ports, handling substantial cargo volume including bulk commodities, containers, and petroleum products moving through the eastern seaboard, and its Chairperson holds overall administrative and strategic responsibility for port operations, capacity expansion planning, and coordination with the ministry on national maritime policy implementation at the port level.
