West Bengal Reshuffles 27 IPS Officers in Major Administrative Overhaul
West Bengal has transferred 27 IPS officers, affecting key IGP, DIG, and SP positions across various districts and battalions.
The West Bengal government has issued new postings for 27 IPS officers in one of its more extensive administrative reshuffles in recent months, spanning range-level command, district superintendence, and specialised operational units across the state's police force.
At the range level, Amit P Javalgi moves to Inspector General of Police, Barasat Range, while Alok Rajoria has been posted as Deputy Inspector General, Burdwan Range, with both postings specifically cancelling the officers' previous orders, indicating the reshuffle revised assignments made only shortly before this round rather than following the state's routine annual rotation cycle.
Kolkata's policing structure saw several changes as well, with Debarshi Dutta posted as SRP, Sealdah, Dinesh Kumar as Deputy Commissioner for the North Division, and Ms. Pushpa taking charge as Deputy Commissioner for the Bidhan Nagar Zone, placing new leadership across some of the city's higher-traffic policing jurisdictions.
Operational and battalion-level roles were also reassigned, with Rahul Goswami named Commandant of the 2nd Battalion of the State Armed Police, Praween Prakash to the 6th Battalion in the same capacity, and Sachin taking charge as Commandant of the Rapid Action Force contingent, postings that carry direct responsibility for the state's rapid-deployment and law-and-order reserve units.
District-level leadership changes rounded out the reshuffle, with Priyabrata Roy posted as Superintendent of Police for Barasat, Biswa Chand Thakur for Sunderban, Mrs. Bidisha Kalita Dasgupta for Bongaon, and Ms. Pratiksha Jharkhariya for Darjeeling, districts that span a wide range of policing environments from the state's southern delta region to its northern hill district bordering Sikkim and Bhutan.
Reshuffles of this scale, touching range, district, city, and battalion-level postings simultaneously, are typically issued as a single consolidated order by the state's Home Department rather than through staggered individual transfers, and this round follows that established pattern.
