West Bengal Reshuffles 13 IPS Officers, Names New Police Commissioners for Barrackpore and Bidhan Nagar
West Bengal has reshuffled 13 IPS officers, appointing new Police Commissioners for Barrackpore, Bidhan Nagar, Howrah, and Chandan Nagar.
The West Bengal government has carried out a reshuffle involving 13 IPS officers, with Praveen Kumar Tripathi named Commissioner of Police for Barrackpore, Murli Dhar appointed to the same rank for Bidhan Nagar, and Akash Magharia named Commissioner of Police for Howrah.
Additionally, Koteswara Rao takes over as Commissioner of Police for Chandan Nagar, rounding out four city commissionerate changes within the reshuffle, positions that carry direct responsibility for law and order, traffic management, and crime investigation across their respective urban jurisdictions in the state's National Capital Region-adjacent industrial belt.
Range-level postings were also part of the exercise, with Amit P Javalgi named Inspector General of Police for Burdwan Range and Mukesh assigned to the Murshidabad and Jangipur Range, both supervisory postings overseeing multiple districts within their respective jurisdictions.
Gaurav Lal has been posted to the Criminal Investigation Department, a specialised wing handling complex criminal cases requiring dedicated investigative resources beyond standard district-level policing capacity.
The reshuffle further places Syed Waquar Raza, Kankar Prosad Barui, Shyam Singh, Alok Rajoria, Bhaskar Mukherjee, and David Ivan Lepcha in various Deputy Inspector General roles, spanning a range of supervisory postings across the state's police hierarchy.
Reshuffles of this scale, touching both city commissionerates and range-level supervisory postings simultaneously, are typically issued by West Bengal's Home Department as a single consolidated order reflecting periodic administrative recalibration across the state's policing structure.
The transfer orders were issued through the West Bengal Home Department, which administers postings and transfers for the state's IPS cadre officers.
