Manoj Tiwari Appointed IG in Border Security Force
Manoj Tiwari, currently heading the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, has been appointed Inspector General in the BSF for a five-year tenure.
Manoj Tiwari, presently Director of the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has been appointed Inspector General in the Border Security Force (BSF), with the posting running until August 24, 2030, covering a combined normal tenure of five years.
The BSF is India's primary border-guarding force along the frontiers with Pakistan and Bangladesh, and an Inspector General typically commands a frontier or sector formation, overseeing border-fencing operations, smuggling interdiction and coordination with the Army in sensitive stretches.
Tiwari is a 2003-batch IPS officer of the Sikkim cadre, moving to the paramilitary force after a stint heading the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous body that runs welfare and commemorative programmes linked to B.R. Ambedkar under the social justice ministry.
His move from a welfare-sector deputation to a frontier command role marks a shift back to core policing and border-security responsibilities after time spent on the civilian administrative side of the deputation cycle.
The five-year tenure length signals an extended posting rather than a short rotational assignment, giving Tiwari time to settle into a formation and see through any ongoing border-infrastructure projects in his sector.
The BSF has been expanding smart-fencing and surveillance technology deployment along vulnerable stretches of the border, and IG-level officers are central to overseeing these projects on the ground.
The posting takes effect from the date specified in the order, running through August 24, 2030.
