MHA Deputes Twelve IPS and IRS Officers as Deputy and Zonal Directors in Narcotics Control Bureau

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the deputation of twelve senior officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Revenue Service — Customs and Indirect Taxes (IRS C&IT) — to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in a major push to strengthen the agency's nationwide anti-narcotics operations. At the NCB Headquarters in New Delhi, Jayant Singh (IPS, Assam-Meghalaya cadre, 2014 batch) has been designated Deputy Director for the Special Wing. Bhagart Deepak Surinder Kumar (IRS C&IT, 2015 batch) joins as Deputy Director HQ, while Pramod Kumar Sheoram (IRS C&IT, 2015) takes charge as Deputy Director (Coordination). Aditya Bajpai (IRS C&IT, 2016) is posted as Deputy Director (Intelligence) for the OEC Branch. Salame Ankush Sambhu (IRS C&IT, 2015) is transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation to anchor inter-agency financial crime investigations. Sripati Pandey, from the Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB), has been designated Zonal Director for Gorakhpur, a critical border transit monitoring hub. Regional commands receive an influx of IRS professionals: Akash Singh (2015) leads the Ranchi Zonal Unit; Abhisekh Narayan Sinha (2016) takes the Jaipur zone; Dr. P.M. Yashwant (2014) heads Hyderabad; Ankit Kaul (2015) leads Kolkata; Kunal Kumar (2015) commands Bhubaneswar; and Piyush Kumar (2016) heads the Jammu zone. The large-scale induction signals the federal government's intent to apply multi-disciplinary customs, financial forensics, and intelligence expertise to dismantle transnational drug trafficking networks operating across India's borders and coastlines.
