Northeast truly becomes fulcrum of India; Ashtalakshmi story unfolding at swift pace: Sonowal

Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said the Northeast has truly become the “fulcrum of India”, and asserted that the “Ashtalakshmi story” is unfolding at an accelerated pace, driving an inclusive, sustainable and globally competitive future. Sonowal participated in the North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition 2026, being hosted by Meghalaya from June 15-16 at the Lariti Performing Centre in Shillong. As a seasoned leader and administrator, Sonowal, who is a 1984 batch Assam cadre Indian Administrative Service officer, has been instrumental in shaping the region's development narrative. His current role as the minister for ports, shipping and waterways has further enabled him to play a crucial part in promoting the region's maritime trade and commerce.
