Prabhas Dansana, IRTS Officer, Appointed Director General of Research Designs and Standards Organisation

Prabhas Dansana has been appointed Director General of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation, moving from his previous posting at the Railway Board.

RDSO functions as Indian Railways' principal research and standard-setting body, responsible for developing technical specifications, testing new rolling stock and infrastructure designs, and setting engineering standards applied uniformly across all zones, making the Director General position one of the more technically consequential leadership roles within the Railway Board's organisational structure.

Dansana is an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, a background focused on train operations and commercial functions rather than pure engineering, which is somewhat distinct from the technical and engineering-heavy profile RDSO's Director General role more typically draws, though the position also requires broader administrative and coordination capability across the organisation's various engineering research divisions.

His move from the Railway Board headquarters to RDSO's leadership reflects the standard rotation pattern within Indian Railways where senior officers move between policy-coordination roles at the Board and technical or operational leadership assignments, a pattern intended to bring cross-functional perspective to specialised technical organisations such as RDSO.
