Railway Board Officials Depart for Kathmandu to Attend India-Nepal Cross Border Rail Project Meetings

The Railway Board has deputed a five-member delegation to Kathmandu, Nepal, from June 11 to 12, 2026, to participate in the 8th Joint Working Group (JWG) Meeting and the 10th Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting on India-Nepal Cross Border Link projects. The team includes Avinash Kumar Mishra (Executive Director/Traffic Transportation-Freight), Harbrinder Singh Bajwa (Executive Director/Finance Management), Vivek Kumar (Executive Director/Gati Shakti-Civil-II), Binay Kumar Jha (Executive Director/ME/EnHM), Ms. Pallavi Joshi (Executive Director/Finance Commissioner's Branch), and Jaikishan (Deputy Director/Traffic Transportation-VI). The India-Nepal cross-border rail link projects have been a cornerstone of bilateral infrastructure cooperation between the two nations. These projects aim to bolster trade, people-to-people connectivity, and Nepal's access to Indian rail networks. The JWG and PSC frameworks have been the primary institutional mechanisms for coordinating the technical, financial, and operational aspects of these linkages. The meeting in Kathmandu is expected to review project progress, address pending technical and financial issues, and set timelines for the next phase of implementation. With India's increasing emphasis on neighbourhood connectivity under its Neighbourhood First policy, rail links with Nepal have gained strategic importance. The multi-departmental composition of the delegation — spanning operations, finance, civil engineering, and mechanical/electrical domains — reflects the comprehensive nature of the discussions planned for the two-day engagement in Kathmandu.
