Sanjay Mathur Assigned Additional Charge of Director, NCRB

Sanjay Mathur, Inspector General at the National Crime Records Bureau, has been assigned additional charge of the post of Director, National Crime Records Bureau. He is a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre.

NCRB compiles and maintains national crime statistics, runs the CCTNS criminal tracking network linking police stations across states, and serves as the technical backbone for several central databases used in criminal investigation.

Mathur moves into the additional charge from his substantive post as Inspector General at the same organisation, placing him in officiating charge of NCRB ahead of any decision on a regular appointment to the Director's post.

NCRB's coordination with state police forces has also expanded to cover standardised crime classification codes, an effort aimed at improving the comparability of crime statistics reported across different states.

As officiating Director, Mathur will oversee NCRB's ongoing work on the CCTNS network and its data-sharing arrangements with state police forces, building on the familiarity he already has with the organisation from his role as IG.

The additional charge arrangement is expected to continue until a regular Director is appointed to head the bureau.

The additional charge takes effect as per the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
