Satendra Singh Named Commissioner of Backward Classes and Minority Welfare in MP Reshuffle

Satendra Singh, a 2009-batch IAS officer, has been transferred as Commissioner-cum-Director of the Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department, with additional charge as Commissioner of Scheduled Caste Development and Managing Director of the MP State Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation, as per an order dated June 17, 2026.

The Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department oversees scholarship schemes, hostel administration, and welfare programmes for the state's OBC and minority populations, while the Scheduled Caste Development charge carries responsibility for SC welfare schemes and the finance corporation that channels credit and development funding to the community. Holding both charges concurrently places Singh across two of the state's largest social-welfare verticals.

Singh previously held a cluster of tribal-welfare postings, serving as Financial Commissioner-cum-Director of Tribal Area Development Schemes, Managing Director of the MP Employment and Training Council, and in charge of the Tribal Research and Development Institute. That combination gave him oversight of tribal-focused finance, employment schemes, and research functions before this reshuffle moved him to a different welfare vertical entirely.

His prior responsibilities transfer in full to Neha Marvya Singh, a 2011-batch officer named in the same order, who takes over the tribal-welfare cluster Singh is vacating. The two appointments were issued together, indicating a direct one-for-one handover rather than a staggered transition.

The move is part of a wider reshuffle in which the Madhya Pradesh government transferred and assigned new responsibilities to 29 IAS officers across revenue, urban development, education, health, energy, and cooperative administration, alongside the tribal welfare and social justice changes affecting Singh. Officers including Alok Kumar Singh, moved out of the Chief Minister's Secretariat, and Amar Bahadur Singh, posted as Additional Secretary in the Tribal Affairs Department, were named in the same exercise.

Singh's shift from a tribal-administration cluster to backward classes and minority welfare brings him into a department managing scholarship disbursal and hostel infrastructure at scale, areas that face recurring scrutiny over delayed payments and implementation gaps at the district level.

The order was issued by the General Administration Department and signed by Chief Secretary Anurag Jain on behalf of the Governor, with the transfer effective from the date of issue.
