The ongoing Neyveli Book Fair 2026 reached an exciting phase on its seventh day, blending the worlds of literature, cinema, and performing arts. The evening’s grand function featured popular actor, director, and Tamil cinema veteran "Kalaimamani" Dr. R. Pandiarajan as the Chief Guest, drawing a massive crowd of book lovers and cultural enthusiasts.

The evening function was presided over by Shri B. Anbuchelvan, Executive Director (REPP), CTO Civil and CEC.

Dr. R. Pandiarajan, acclaimed actor and director, opened his address by expressing his gratitude to the Tamil language and the cinema industry for the opportunity to speak before such an erudite audience. A champion of independent cinema, he commended all the participants of the Short Film Competition held at the Neyveli Book Fair. Addressing the young filmmakers in attendance, Dr. Pandiarajan urged them to channel their originality into crafting impactful stories with strong social messages. Sharing a poignant personal reflection, he recounted how early financial constraints had disrupted his education, and how his unwavering perseverance eventually led him to earn a Ph.D. He encouraged the budding creators to leverage modern digital mediums for global reach, emphasizing that success in both filmmaking and literature hinges on robust content, dedication, and purpose. Ultimately, he concluded, self-belief and confidence remain the ultimate catalysts for success.

Honoring Literary and Publishing Excellence

In line with the book fair’s long-standing tradition of honoring literary champions, eminent writer Dr. Durai Dhanabalan was formally felicitated and recognized for his outstanding and lifelong contribution to Tamil literature.

The event also turned its spotlight on modern publishing innovations. M/s. Pustaka, a renowned Bengaluru-based publisher specializing in digital books across multiple regional languages, was highly commended and honoured for its role in expanding the reach of regional literature into the digital era.

Book Releases and Creative Milestones

Two significant new books were officially released to the public by the dignitaries on stage - Arumbu Kavithaigal 50 – A collection of 50 evocative poems penned by Shri Deva. Gnanapragasam.and Villuduyanpattu Thirukkoyil Varalaru - Magimai (Anthology) – A historical and cultural anthology written by Shri K. Umapathi.

 

 

Short Film Winners Awarded

This year's Neyveli Book Fair successfully expanded its creative horizons by hosting a Short Film Competition, which received an overwhelming response of nearly 100 entries from budding filmmakers. Chief Guest Dr. R. Pandiarajan, distributed the prizes to the winners across various competitive categories. He also spoke passionately about "The value of reading and the noble objective of a Book Fair," emphasizing how reading shapes empathetic minds and fuels creative storytelling across both literature and cinema.

A Grand Cultural Finale

The memorable evening concluded on a high note with a spellbinding dance drama performed by the talented artistes of the Arudra Dance Academy, Neyveli, the production beautifully celebrated the spirit of the book festival, leaving the audience thoroughly captivated.
