Uttarakhand Posts Four IPS Officers for Kumbh Security and Dehradun Urban Policing
Uttarakhand posts four IPS officers to reinforce Kumbh Mela 2027 security planning and strengthen urban crime and traffic policing in Dehradun.
The Uttarakhand government has approved new postings for four Indian Police Service officers, focusing on reinforcing security frameworks for the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Haridwar and addressing urban policing demands in the state capital, Dehradun. Ayush Agrawal, who holds the charge of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for the Kumbh Mela-2027, has been given the additional responsibility of Commandant of the 40th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) stationed in Haridwar. The dual assignment is designed to directly align event security planning with the deployment and management of state paramilitary resources. Harish Verma has been directed to take command as Commandant of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) First in Ramnagar, where he will oversee specialised training and rapid deployment forces. Within Dehradun's specialised investigative wing, Amit Shrivastava-I has been appointed Superintendent of Police for the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Sector, bringing analytical expertise to complex criminal cases. Jitendra Chaudhary takes charge as SP for Crime and Traffic in Dehradun, a role that combines oversight of urban criminal activity with traffic management — a pairing seen as essential given the city's rapidly growing population and rising vehicular density. Administrative analysts highlight that Agrawal's dual command structure creates a robust operational link between the massive logistical demands of Kumbh Mela security planning and the ground-level paramilitary support required to execute it. The four postings together represent a calibrated effort to balance large-scale event preparedness with the everyday public safety requirements of Uttarakhand's urban centres.
