Thirty UP State Police Service officers from 1997-2000 batches likely to be promoted to IPS after UPSC Departmental Promotion Committee meeting.
Thirty State Police Service (SPS) officers of Uttar Pradesh, drawn from the 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 service batches, are expected to be promoted to the Indian Police Service following a meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee at the Union Public Service Commission. The officers likely to be elevated include Suresh Chandra Rawat, Shoaib Iqbal, Rahul Mithas, Alok Kumar Sharma, Rajkumar-I, Mahesh Singh Atri, Vineet Bhatnagar, Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, Shashi Shekhar Singh, Kuldeep Singh-I, Gyanendra Nath Prasad, Harendra Pratap Yadav, Bansh Raj Singh Yadav, Dr Krishna Gopal, Madhuban Kumar Singh, Kapil Dev Singh, Balwant Kumar Chaudhary, Rahul Srivastava, Rajesh Kumar Pandey-I, Priti Bala Gupta, Vikas Chandra Tripathi, Purnendu Singh, Harendra Kumar, Martand Prakash Singh, Abhay Nath Tripathi, Pavitra Mohan Tripathi, Devesh Kumar Sharma, Prashant Kumar Prasad, Dr Arvind Kumar, and Siddharth Verma. Promotion from SPS to IPS follows the same broad framework as SCS-to-IAS inductions, with a prescribed quota of IPS vacancies in each state cadre reserved for state police service promotees. The UPSC plays a central role in the DPC process, evaluating the service records, performance reports, and vigilance clearance of eligible officers. Uttar Pradesh, with one of the largest state police forces in the country, regularly conducts multi-batch promotion exercises to fill IPS vacancies. Officers inducted from the SPS typically take up postings as Superintendent of Police in various districts of the state.
