Ajit Kumar Panda to Take Over as CMD, CONCOR, in Internal Elevation
Ajit Kumar Panda, a career CONCOR professional, has been approved as the logistics PSU's new CMD, effective August 1, 2026.
Ajit Kumar Panda has been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR), with the Ministry of Railways approving his elevation from within the company's own ranks.
CONCOR runs India's largest multimodal logistics network, operating container terminals and rail-linked freight movement across the country, and the CMD's post carries direct responsibility for the company's freight volumes, terminal expansion and pricing strategy at a time when rail-based container traffic is competing hard against road transport.
Panda is a career CONCOR professional who has held multiple senior roles within the company over the years, giving him direct familiarity with its terminal operations, customer accounts and freight-corridor linkages ahead of taking the top job.
His elevation from inside the organisation, rather than a lateral entrant or an officer from another PSU, continues the government's preference for promoting internal candidates to CMD posts in strategic infrastructure entities.
Panda will assume charge on August 1, 2026, at a point when CONCOR is expanding its containerised cargo business and aligning its terminal network with the dedicated freight corridors coming into operation.
With logistics cost reduction and supply chain resilience high on the policy agenda, continuity in CONCOR's leadership is seen as useful for sustaining ongoing expansion projects rather than restarting strategic planning under a new outside appointee.
Panda's appointment takes effect from August 1, 2026, as approved by the Ministry of Railways.
