B. Kasiviswanathan Returns from Deputation, Posted as PCME of South Western Railway
IRSME officer B. Kasiviswanathan posted as PCME of South Western Railway after returning from deputation to Cochin Port Authority.
B. Kasiviswanathan, an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer, has been posted as Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer (PCME) of South Western Railway (SWR) upon his return from deputation to the Cochin Port Authority. Kasiviswanathan's deployment to the Cochin Port Authority had been a cross-domain assignment, taking him from the railway services to a major maritime infrastructure body. His return to the railways and immediate elevation to the PCME position at SWR reflects the confidence that the administration places in his accumulated experience. South Western Railway, headquartered in Hubballi, Karnataka, operates an extensive network across Karnataka, Goa, and parts of Andhra Pradesh. As PCME, Kasiviswanathan will be the senior-most mechanical engineering authority in the zone, overseeing locomotive and rolling stock maintenance, depot management, and the deployment of engineering resources across SWR's operations. The cross-domain exposure gained at Cochin Port Authority — which is a significant logistics and cargo handling entity — is expected to bring valuable perspectives on interface management between rail and maritime infrastructure, an increasingly relevant consideration as India develops its integrated multimodal freight corridors. His posting as PCME at SWR comes at a time when the zone is involved in multiple infrastructure development initiatives, including electrification, new line projects, and fleet modernisation, making the role both demanding and strategically important.
