Bihar IAS promotion 2026

New Delhi, June 13, 2026: The Central Government has promoted 14 Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officers to the Indian Administrative Service cadre. The Department of Personnel and Training issued the notification under the 2025 Select List, covering vacancies that arose between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

The promotions bring experienced district and state-level administrators into the IAS — a process designed to address officer shortages and reward long-serving state civil servants with a national-level posting pathway.

DoPT confirmed the promotions were cleared in consultation with the Bihar government and through the UPSC-supervised Departmental Promotion Committee process. The vacancies arose through retirements and cadre adjustments during 2025.

Bihar's state government will now issue individual posting orders assigning each officer to a role within the state administration. With 38 districts and one of the country's largest populations, Bihar depends on a steady pipeline of IAS officers to staff district collectorate and divisional offices.
