Gedela Srinu Kumar of Andhra Pradesh SCS Promoted to IAS for Select List 2024
Gedela Srinu Kumar of Andhra Pradesh SCS promoted to IAS under Select List 2024, allocated to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Gedela Srinu Kumar, a member of the State Civil Service (SCS) of Andhra Pradesh, has been promoted to the Indian Administrative Service under the Select List of 2024. He has been allocated to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Promotion from the State Civil Service to the IAS is a competitive and merit-based process overseen by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A fixed percentage of IAS vacancies in each state cadre are reserved for SCS officers who meet the eligibility criteria and are recommended through the Departmental Promotion Committee process. This provides a pathway for experienced state government officers to join the All India Service. SCS-to-IAS promotees typically bring substantial ground-level administrative experience, having served in district administration, revenue, and related departments at the sub-district and district levels before their elevation. They are usually placed in the junior time scale of the IAS upon induction. Gedela Srinu Kumar's promotion adds to the Andhra Pradesh cadre strength at a time when the state administration is engaged with post-bifurcation institution-building and the development of Amaravati as the state capital. The allocation of the AP cadre ensures that he will continue to serve within Andhra Pradesh, where his existing knowledge of state-level programmes and local administration will be directly applicable to his new IAS responsibilities.
