Nidhin Valsan Gets Additional Charge of Special Branch in Delhi Police Reshuffle

The Lt. Governor of Delhi has approved the transfer of Nidhin Valsan, a 2012-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, from Additional Commissioner of Police (Technology and Prosecution & Investigation) to the same post with additional charge of the Special Branch.

Valsan's core assignment in Technology and Prosecution & Investigation covers the Delhi Police's technical infrastructure and coordination on prosecution matters, a role that has grown in importance as the force expands its use of digital evidence and surveillance technology in casework. The addition of Special Branch duties brings intelligence-gathering responsibilities into his portfolio alongside his existing technical mandate.

The move comes in the same batch of Delhi Police transfers approved by the Lt. Governor on Monday that also saw Parmaditya shift out of the Special Branch to Prime Ministerial security duties, suggesting the additional charge to Valsan is intended to maintain continuity in the Special Branch's functioning during that transition.

Additional charge arrangements of this kind are a common bridging mechanism within the Delhi Police when a permanent successor to a vacated post has not yet been finalised, allowing an officer already familiar with related functions to hold both portfolios until a standalone appointment is made. As a 2012-batch officer, Valsan's dual charge places significant administrative weight on a comparatively junior rank within the force's senior leadership structure.

The order takes effect immediately, giving Valsan dual charge of both the technology and intelligence functions within the force.
