Pankaj Sharma Appointed General Manager, North Western Railway

Pankaj Sharma, presently Principal Executive Director/Electrical Engineering (Development) at the Railway Board, has been appointed General Manager of North Western Railway. He is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers.

The General Manager is the senior-most administrative post in a railway zone, with overall charge of operations, finance, engineering and personnel across North Western Railway's divisions, which cover Rajasthan and parts of neighbouring states.

Sharma moves to the post from the Railway Board, where he served as Principal Executive Director overseeing electrical engineering development — a board-level position involved in planning capital investment for electrification and rolling stock modernisation across the network.

North Western Railway's modernisation agenda has included station redevelopment at several junctions across Rajasthan, projects that require coordination between the General Manager's office and the state's tourism and urban development departments.

His move from a Railway Board engineering post to a zonal GM charge follows the established career path for senior IRSEE officers, who typically take up general administrative command of a zone after board-level technical postings.

As GM, Sharma will have overall responsibility for North Western Railway's operations, including the zone's ongoing electrification and station upgrade projects that he would have had visibility into from his previous Railway Board role.

The appointment takes effect as per the order issued by the Railway Board.
