Government Extends Performance Appraisal Report Deadlines for IAS, IPS and IFS Officers for 2025-26

The central government has revised the timelines for recording Performance Appraisal Reports for All India Service officers, including IAS, IPS, and IFS, for the 2025-26 appraisal cycle.

Under the revised schedule, the last date for self-appraisal, the stage at which an officer records their own account of work performed during the appraisal period, has been extended to June 30, 2026, giving officers additional time to complete this initial stage of the PAR process.

Appraisal by the Reporting Authority, typically the officer's immediate superior who assesses performance based on direct working knowledge, must now be completed by August 31, 2026, under the revised timeline, while the Reviewing Authority, generally a more senior officer providing a further layer of assessment, has until October 31, 2026 to complete their portion.

The deadline for appraisal by the Accepting Authority, the final stage in the PAR process where the report is formally accepted and finalised, remains unchanged at December 31, 2026, meaning the extensions apply only to the earlier stages of the multi-tier appraisal chain.

Performance Appraisal Reports form the core basis for promotion, empanelment, and career progression decisions for All India Service officers, making the timely and accurate completion of each stage significant for an officer's subsequent eligibility for promotion boards and central staffing scheme empanelment.

Deadline extensions of this kind are periodically issued by the Department of Personnel and Training to accommodate administrative delays or to align appraisal timelines with other cadre management processes running concurrently across ministries and state governments.
