PESB Recommends Anjani Kumar for Director (Technical) at Western Coalfields Limited
PESB recommends Anjani Kumar of Coal India as Director (Technical) for Western Coalfields Limited; appointment awaits Ministry of Coal approval.
The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Anjani Kumar, currently serving as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL), for the post of Director (Technical) at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL). WCL is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited and one of the major coal-producing companies in India, operating primarily in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The Director (Technical) is a board-level post responsible for overseeing mining operations, production planning, and technical services at the company. Anjani Kumar's background in contracts within CIL is expected to be relevant to his new role, as procurement and contractual management are integral to large-scale mining operations. Board-level appointments in Coal India subsidiaries are made by the government through the PESB process, which includes a selection interview followed by a panel recommendation. The PESB is a government body that recruits senior executives for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). Its recommendations are then sent to the relevant administrative ministry — in this case, the Ministry of Coal — for final approval and appointment orders. The appointment is expected to address the vacancy at the Director (Technical) position in WCL, which is a critical operational role given the company's production targets and ongoing expansion of mining projects in the central Indian coalfields.
