Sarah Sharma Repatriated Prematurely from CBI to Odisha Cadre

Sarah Sharma, who had been serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre. A 2010 batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre, Sharma's early return ends her deputation to the federal agency before its scheduled completion. Premature repatriation from central deputation assignments can occur for a variety of administrative, operational, or cadre management reasons. In some instances, the parent state requests the return of an officer due to requirements at the cadre level; in others, the central agency and DoPT may initiate the process based on internal assessments. Sharma had served at the DIG level in the CBI, a senior investigative rank that typically involves supervisory responsibility over case teams and oversight of major inquiries. Her return to Odisha will see her reabsorbed into the state's IPS cadre structure, where she is expected to be assigned a fresh posting commensurate with her rank and experience.
