Uttar Pradesh Transfers 35 IPS Officers in Police Reshuffle

Uttar Pradesh has transferred 35 IPS officers, with Charu Nigam of the 2024 batch named Commandant of the 47th Battalion, Provincial Armed Constabulary, Ghaziabad, according to the order.

The transfers span district policing charges, including Deputy Commissioner of Police and Superintendent of Police posts, and battalion command roles, the layer of policing administration responsible for law-and-order coordination, crime investigation oversight and force deployment across Uttar Pradesh's police commissionerates and districts. A reshuffle of this scale, touching 35 officers across ranks spanning the 2014 to 2024 batches, reflects the scale of Uttar Pradesh's police force relative to other states.

Among the batch-wise moves, Shravan Kumar Singh, 2014 batch, shifts from DCP, Kanpur Nagar, to DCP, Gautam Buddha Nagar, while Pramod Kumar, 2015 batch, moves from DCP, Varanasi, to SP, Cyber Headquarters, Lucknow, a posting that places a district-charge officer into the state's dedicated cyber-crime coordination unit at a time when cyber-enabled financial fraud cases have risen sharply across the state.

Several 2016-batch officers were reassigned within the same tier: Ravi Shankar Nim moves from Gautam Buddha Nagar to Commandant of the 2nd Battalion SSF, Gorakhpur; Atul Sharma-II from DCP, Agra, to SP, Intelligence Headquarters, Lucknow; and Soman Kumar and Ravindra Kumar swap district charges between Prayagraj and Agra, a set of moves that keeps officers of similar seniority rotating within the same administrative tier rather than being elevated or moved to markedly different responsibilities.

The order also moves a cluster of 2017-to-2022-batch officers across DCP and Additional SP postings in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Agra, Kanpur and Ghaziabad, a rotation pattern reflecting the routine reassignment of mid-career IPS officers across the state's busiest commissionerates as vacancies arise, with several officers moving between districts that have recently seen heightened law-and-order or crime-reporting activity.

The remaining names in the order, including Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, Kapil Dev Singh, Gyanendra Nath Prasad, Balwant Kumar Chaudhary, Abhay Nath Tripathi, Harendra Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Pandey, Harendra Pratap Yadav, Kuldeep Singh and Vineet Bhatnagar, cover further DCP, SP and Commandant postings across Lucknow, Agra, Ghaziabad, Kanpur City, Varanasi and Etah, rounding out one of the larger single-order IPS reshuffles the state has issued this year.

The transfer order takes effect immediately, with all 35 officers expected to assume charge of their new postings shortly.
