IDAS Officer Himanshu Sharma Promoted to HAG, Posted as PCDA Pension Prayagraj
Himanshu Sharma, 1997-batch IDAS officer, has been promoted to HAG and posted as Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pension) at Prayagraj, transferred from Patna.
Himanshu Sharma, a 1997-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service, has been promoted to the Higher Administrative Grade and transferred from Patna to Prayagraj, where he takes charge as Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pension). The promotion and transfer are part of routine HAG-level placements within the IDAS cadre, which manages financial and accounts functions across India's defence establishment.
The Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pension) at Prayagraj handles pension processing and disbursement for a large segment of India's armed forces personnel, including retired Army officers and other ranks. The Prayagraj PCDA (Pension) office processes pension calculations, commutation requests, family pension claims, and disability pension awards for lakhs of defence pensioners across the country. The volume and sensitivity of this work makes the Prayagraj PCDA post one of the most operationally significant in the IDAS cadre.
Sharma's promotion to HAG — equivalent to Additional Secretary rank in the IAS pay structure — marks his entry into the senior leadership tier of the IDAS. HAG promotions in organised Group A central services are processed through the Union Public Service Commission's Departmental Promotion Committee mechanism, involving review of service records, vigilance clearances, and Annual Performance Assessment Reports.
The IDAS manages financial audit, internal audit, payment, and accounts functions across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and defence production establishments. PCDA offices are distributed nationally, each responsible for specific zonal or functional mandates. Prayagraj has historically been a core location of the defence accounts structure, given its geographic centrality and the large concentration of defence pensioners in Uttar Pradesh and the adjoining region.
Sharma's previous posting was at Patna, where he served in a Controller of Defence Accounts capacity. His transfer to Prayagraj on promotion follows the standard IDAS practice of placing newly promoted HAG officers in principal controller-level positions, which carry full functional charge of a PCDA office including staff management, audit oversight, and coordination with the Ministry of Defence on pension policy implementation.
The promotion and transfer order was issued by the Ministry of Defence. Sharma assumes charge at PCDA (Pension), Prayagraj, with immediate effect from the date of joining.
