Mohit Chandra, IRSEE Officer, Appointed General Manager of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works

Mohit Chandra has been appointed General Manager of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, moving from his previous position as Additional General Manager at Northern Railway.

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works is one of Indian Railways' oldest and most significant production units, manufacturing electric locomotives for the network, making the General Manager's role central to overseeing production targets, technology upgrades, and workforce management at a facility with a long institutional history in India's locomotive manufacturing capacity.

Chandra is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers, a background directly relevant to leading an electric locomotive production unit, given the technical expertise in traction systems and electrical engineering the role requires for overseeing both ongoing production and technology modernisation initiatives at the facility.

His previous position as Additional General Manager at Northern Railway, one of the network's largest and busiest zones, would have placed him in a senior deputy leadership role assisting the zone's General Manager across a range of operational and infrastructure functions before this move to a dedicated production unit leadership post.

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works has continued to play a central role in Indian Railways' locomotive fleet modernisation, including development of higher-horsepower electric locomotives to support the network's increasing freight and passenger capacity demands as electrification of the broad-gauge network approaches completion.
