Muanpuii Saiawi Concurrently Accredited as High Commissioner to Samoa

Ms Muanpuii Saiawi, currently serving as India's High Commissioner to New Zealand, has been additionally accredited as the next High Commissioner of India to the Independent State of Samoa. She will continue to be based in Wellington. A 2005 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Saiawi is among the senior IFS officers from the Northeastern region of India. Samoa, an island nation in the South Pacific, has a small but established diplomatic relationship with India. The concurrent accreditation — where one ambassador or high commissioner covers multiple neighbouring small states from a single base — is a common practice in regions where the volume of bilateral business does not warrant a separate resident mission. Wellington's geographical proximity to the Pacific island nations makes it a natural hub for India's simultaneous diplomatic representation in Samoa and New Zealand. Saiawi's accreditation extends her responsibilities without requiring relocation, and she will handle both bilateral relationships from her current post.
