Punjab IPS Reshuffle Harmanbir Singh Appointed DIG Border Range Amritsar
Punjab has appointed Harmanbir Singh as Deputy Inspector General of the Border Range in Amritsar, replacing Vivek Sheel Soni who has been transferred out of the post.
Chandigarh, June 13, 2026: The Punjab government has appointed Harmanbir Singh as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Border Range, Amritsar, replacing Vivek Sheel Soni (2011 batch IPS) who has been transferred from the role.
The Border Range DIG coordinates policing along Punjab's international boundary with Pakistan, working alongside the Border Security Force on surveillance, smuggling interdiction, and cross-border crime. The posting carries direct operational responsibility for one of the country's most sensitive border stretches.
Vivek Sheel Soni's departure ends his tenure at the Border Range. His new posting has not yet been announced.
Punjab Police has rotated several border and range-level officers over the past three months. The state has reported a rise in drone-based smuggling attempts along the border this year, which has increased pressure on the DIG Border Range to tighten surveillance coordination.
